Taylor Hanson Joins Under 30 Summit Roster

The agenda for the Under 30 Summit — the largest, most exclusive gathering of young entrepreneurs and game-changers in the world, with over 1,000 hand-picked participants, culled mostly from theForbes 30 Under 30 list – was just posted. There will be many, many new additions in the six-plus weeks leading up the Summit – stay tuned! – but here are a few new ones that stand out to me:
  • At 29, Afrojack is one of the most successful DJs and music producers in the world. Forbes’ recent list of the top-earning DJs placed him at 6th, with $22 million in earnings. But getting an arena or a club to move in unison isn’t a simple matter of mixing good songs. It’s leadership. Afrojack will demonstrate the art and science of how he reads a room – and then leads it.
  • Sara Blakely’s first job out of college was walking around in the Goofy costume at Disney World. The pantyhose they forced her to wear were uncomfortable and old-fashioned. So she invented Spanx, plowing her $5,000 life savings into it. It’s the only investment she ever needed. She is now the world’s youngest-self-made female billionaire, according to Forbes’ most recent Billionaire issue. An inspiration to thousands, she’ll discuss how she bet it all in her 20s – and won.
  • Taylor Hanson was a teen idol. At 31, he’s an astute businessperson, at the forefront of a movement that uses big data to change what you listen to, and share.  He’s headlining one of our two-dozen breakouts, “Music Goes Moneyball.”
There’s lots more to come, including a giant fashion show, a mega pitch contest, the lineup for the Under 30 Music Festival, and dozens of still-to-be announced speakers. Members of the 30 Under 30 and their guests should have already received email invitations. Others interested in applying for a small number of paid invitations can do so here.

New partnership program Food on the Move targets food deserts

More than 400 people from various geographic and economic backgrounds gathered for lunch on the lawn outside the Tulsa Community College Northeast Campus on Tuesday for the inaugural Food on the Move.
The event is a collaboration of food and health experts and community partners working to mobilize good quality food into hard-to-reach economically challenged areas and help combat hunger.
“We are focusing on a deep set of challenges, which are not just hunger, but it comes back to the economy and comes back to the history of our city, and we want to help build a bridge that begins to change things in a unique way,” said Taylor Hanson, the local Grammy-nominated musician who worked to put the event together.
Food on the Move includes partners on the government, business and nonprofit level working together.
“The goal is to bring food to people who might be struggling while bringing together those who can and can’t pay,” said Eileen Bradshaw, executive director of the Community Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma.
“Some of the people are nonpaying customers; some are paying a suggested donation, and others are paying for their meal and someone else’s.”
Food trucks at the event included the Doghouse, T-Town Gourmet and the Community Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma’s mobile eatery.
Everyone who showed up was given a red ticket — regardless of what, or if, they paid — that was redeemable for lunch.
“I think it’s an important way to bring awareness to the fact that we are all in the midst of those who may need help,” Bradshaw said.
The plan is to hold similar events in other areas across Tulsa that are considered to be food deserts — areas without access to fresh, healthy and affordable food, said Meghann Ray, spokeswoman for Iron Gate.
She said Iron Gate, a downtown soup kitchen that provides meals seven days a week, is one of the agencies partnering with Food on the Move because of the goal of getting food to people who need it the most.
“This is a way for us to get food out to people and reach other areas in the community,” she said. “We’re pretty proud to get involved with these other agencies that are trying to fight hunger in the community.”
The Real Good Food Truck mobile grocery store was at the event, as well as representatives from the Tulsa Health Department and the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
Jackie Randles, who lives at the nearby Apache Manor public housing complex, said she took her family to the event after receiving a flier.
“It’s awesome to get to meet people who care about the community a little more than what we are used to seeing,” she said.
Randles was particularly interested in the mobile grocery store, which makes stops at the campus twice a week.
“We don’t have transportation, and the fact that we can walk and get meat and vegetables and other options than what they have at the little store up the street is nice,” she said.

Taylor Hanson Helps Bring Food On The Move To Tulsa 'Food Deserts'

TULSA, Oklahoma -
One of the Hanson brothers is working to help the hungry in our community. Taylor Hanson is leading a new initiative called Food On The Move, and Tuesday, lunch was served at TCC's northeast campus.
Food trucks served up hot meals over the lunch hour as a way to bring awareness to hunger in Tulsa. People could pay whatever they were able with a suggested donation of $6.
Food On The Move is trying to capitalize on the success of the mobile food truck movement as well as mobile grocery stores that can roll into food deserts in Tulsa – those are areas of town where fresh fruits and vegetables are not readily available.
Food On The Move is working with the Community Food Bank, Iron Gate, The Health Department and other community partners to find ways to bring good quality food to those in need.
"We feel like people love food and there's a lot of generous people that can give just a little bit each time they show up at the event. So the goal is for as much of the proceeds from the food purchases, from people that attend the event that can pay to go back into keeping this moving,” Hanson said.
Hanson helped organize Tuesday's Food On The Move event; the first of several, the next of which is planned for September.

HANSON DEEP FRY DAY - Nova 93.7

Two-Thirds of Hanson, Isaac and Taylor, are in town for the “You Pick The Set List” where fans can pick from all six albums.

HANSON | THE FULL INTERVIEW

Between them they have 11 children and naturally we assume there’s a new Hanson coming along. “They certainly have no rights to the name,” the boys quipped.
New-mum Sally got her chance to chat to the boys on the phone, and she wanted to know if the boys could [play earlier because this was a 17 year journey for her, but she goes to bed early due to mum duties.

DEEP FRYING TIPS FROM ISAAC AND TAYLOR

pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/shockwave/download/index.cgi?P1_Prod_Version=ShockwaveFlash">

Boys to men: Why Hanson are embracing their boy band past

“Crank it up, roll the windows down, go fast.”
That was how Isaac Hanson described the first track, titled Fired Up, from the band’s new album Anthem.
It’s a far cry from the group’s breakout 1997 hit MMMbop, but the eldest Hanson brother said similar themes have been present throughout their work.

“MMMbop ultimately is about trying to see the positive in the negative, trying to see the positive relationships you’ll have the in the face of challenge and strife,” Isaac said.
“Truth be told, that song in many ways was about us choosing to pursue music in spite of other things going on.”
“We decided that we were going to go forward with [a music career] because this is what we love and that has been a consistent theme throughout our whole career.”
Isaac and Taylor had their first taste of a Tim Tam slam.

Frontman Taylor said the song was partly inspired by “friends that didn’t get” the brothers’ early determination and passion for music.
“The cool thing about where we are and the fact that we’ve started so young is, I’m 30, but we’ve been doing this since we were kids,” he said.
“In many cases, we’re peers with bands that have maybe just put out a couple of records. There’s just so much more ahead of us.”
While there is a renewed interest in the group following the release of Anthem, their sixth studio album, the band said they had “never really stopped”.
“We were really at the beginning of the generation of people who grew up with web access,” Isaac said.
“Were it not for that, our ability to stay connected with fans, like our Australian fans, would have been practically impossible as we wouldn’t have been able to maintain that constancy, even when you’re busy somewhere else.”
Taylor said that history had brought them to a “good moment” where they felt they could appeal to fans of “different ages”.
“I don’t think we’re ever interested in pushing aside what we’ve done in the past, but of course you want to move forward,” he said.
“If you go to see a Hanson show now, you see a range of people we’ve literally grown up with, you see people who’ve discovered it halfway through and maybe only heard two or three albums.”
Despite the overriding theme, the band said their music has a new perspective. Each of the brothers is now married with children.
“We never really wrote about our autobiography, but I mean for sure in the love songs there’s a little bit more about keeping it together and staying true to things as opposed to the first infatuation with someone,” Taylor said.
“Really we’ve always written songs that were about things beyond ourselves and that’s part of what’s great about being an artist, being able to sit down and imagine a story and tell it.”
Youngest brother Zac is currently “under the weather” and so will likely miss out on some sightseeing, though he has still taken to the drums during the tour.
Taylor and Isaac said they were determined to check out some of Western Australia’s “natural beauty” for themselves. Taylor, “a photography nerd” is carrying around a vintage camera on tour to capture some of the sights.
“We’ve seen a lot, you see all the sights. Of course you see a lot of hotel rooms and airports and radio stations but we kind of take it in as you can,” said Isaac.
“Hopefully as we make Australia a regular touring stop for ourselves, only having been two years since our last run through the country, we’ll have a few days to see new things.”
Hanson will play Metropolis Fremantle on Friday night. Tickets are available here.

[VIDEO] Interview: Hanson – “All Musicians Are Entrepreneurs”

Hanson, the American pop-rock sibling trio responsible for provoking teen hysteria in the mid 90s, are currently in the country playing shows on their Anthem World TourMusic Feeds managed to catch up with brothers Isaac, Taylor, and Zac and chat about what it’s like balancing the music and the business.
“It starts with passion for the music, you do the business because of the passion for the music,” explains Taylor. “All musicians are entrepreneurs whether they realise it or not,” adds Zac. “You have this band or this music you created and it has this identity, and just like someone who started a cool hotel chain, you have this responsibility of, ‘how is this going to be represented in the world?’ I care about it, I’m making it, I’m creating it, so I want to be a part of all those processes.”
The pop-rock trio sad their “view form the top” and bad experiences with major label mergers in a “messed up” industry gave them the push to go out and do things on their own, establishing their own label and deciding themselves how they want their music to be shared.
“It has been cool to watch technology catch up to the way we wanted to run our business as a band,” says Taylor. “Bandwidth is high, mobile is really cool. Things we always wanted to do when we first started the label are kind of coming of age now.”
Hanson continue their run of dates in Australia at The Hi-Fi in Sydney tonight, before playing Fremantle and Auckland.

Joda, Soda, Snowy and our lucky prize winner Bernadette headed down to SA Brewing to meet and greet Hanson!

Bernadette won the prize for being "Adelaide Biggest Hanson Fan". She told us:

"In 2005 I met Hanson out the front of the Mix 102.3 station, after getting there at 1am in the morning. We tried to follow them in my car but they pulled over and told us to stop following them. I LOVE HANSON SO MUCH, It would be the best 30th birthday gift if I could have a beer with Hanson."

Isaac and Taylor from the band proved very knowledgeable on beer and even brought along some of their own beer Mmmhops for everyone to try!
